Garden Tractor Plowing!

The Cub Cadet 1872 was the first Super Garden Tractor to have power steering as standard equipment.  Power steering was an option that was made available for the Onan powered Super Garden Tractors.  The 1872 was also the first Super Garden Tractor to use Kohler power instead of the Onan 19.9hp twin.  The Kohler engine used in the 1872 was the Magnum 18 two cylinder twin used in the 1810, 1811, and 1812.

This particular machine was the second tractor that I pieced back together out of parts.  This machine was missing all of the steering and lift components.  The hydraulic pump was also in need of repair and is specific to the Super Garden Tractors because of the changes in gearing to accomodate the 26x12x12 rear tires.  I discovered that dual spool hydraulics were expensive as were the power steering components.  This machine was put back together with a good used SGT hydrostatic pump.  The lift pieces came from an older 982 which is single hydraulics at the time of this writing.  The manual steering column, front axle, and linkages came from a 1914 Super Garden Tractor.  So far, this machine gets the most use on the property.  When it isn't turning a 60" Haban built mower deck, it is pushing a 54" Haban built snow blade.  It is truely an enjoyable machine even without the power steering in place.
